Wilwood Attends Two of the Largest Off-Road Events in the West! When One Fall Season Bonnier Off-Road Event is Just Not Enough…
2023 Sand Sports Super Show
If you're a fan of off-roading and enjoy playing with the latest UTV's, Side x Sides, dune buggies, sand rails, and all things related to dune running, then we likely saw you and thousands of others cruising around the Orange County Fairgrounds at 2023 Sand Sports Super Show. This show was a must for Sand Sports enthusiasts of all ages and backgrounds, drawing people from all over the West and even Internationally to experience the latest vehicles, trends, and innovations in the sand sports industry. It seems that the larger manufacturers are not slowing down anytime soon, as it can be difficult to keep up with all the newly released models in this market segment.
Wilwood Disc Brakes once again attended SSSS in force, this time with an outside booth allowing more space to show off the latest UTV brake offerings for Polaris, Honda, Can-Am and even an upgrade option for the new Speed UTV’s designed and manufactured by Robby Gordon! Whether you're into old-school dune buggies, hardcore sand rails or just looking to get started with one of the latest UTV’s or Side by Sides, there's something for you at the Sand Sports Super Show. With so many vendors and manufacturers on site, it was a perfect time to speak with professionals who can offer valuable and solid advice on everything in the industry you want to know more about. And talking to anyone who needed help is what Wilwood did for anything brake-related on Sand capable rides at the 2.5-day event!
Wilwood’s outdoor booth was a popular stop with a brand-NEW Speed UTV (El Jefe), Honda Talon and Polaris XP1000 out on display sporting the latest Wilwood brake kits.
As the Event started on Friday evening, the Wilwood and Speed UTV crews, including Robby’s son, Max Gordon, got busy installing the Speed by Wilwood upgrade brake kit option on the El Jefe in the booth. This kit is available exclusively through Speed UTV. Seeing this trick brake set-up sparked a lot of interest and helped convince those with Speed UTV’s on order that this Speed by Wilwood brake kit is the hot ticket for improving performance.
The Honda Factory Racing Team Talon, driven by Zach Sizelove, proudly displayed their 2023 Baja 500 Pro UTV NA class-winning rig running Wilwood Brakes in the Maxxis tires booth.
Terra Crew kept the crowd entertained with “over-the-top” antics at the proving grounds area with purpose-built rigs that like to fly, slide, and go BBRRAAAAPP!
As Friday’s move-in progressed, it was apparent that Speed UTV was going to be delivering quite a few brand-new vehicles to anxiously awaiting customers who would be taking them home at the end of the SSSS Event on Sunday. This was just a fraction of the Speed UTV cars that showed up ready to go over the long weekend. Soon to be roaming the SW territories, we look forward to seeing these well-engineered cars, with tons of upgrade options out in their natural desert habitat!
But wait, there’s more…Bonnier Event numero dos in Fall of 2023
Off-Road Expo CA
If you’re like us and into playing in the dirt, rocks, and sand, this was another SoCal event you did not want to miss. This year’s Off-Road Expo at the Fairplex in Pomona, CA, was also super busy all weekend long with off-road enthusiasts that weren’t afraid of a little rain on Saturday and as we say, “it helps to keep the dust down.” Attendees from all over the US, and even the world, came to the Off-Road Expo to check out the latest vehicles, race trucks and parts available in the off-road industry.
Bonnier Events, the same company that puts on the Sand Sports Super Show and other events nationwide, has these shows running like a well-oiled machine, providing a great experience for not only the manufacturers and exhibiting vendors utilizing a seasoned staff and organizers but also the attendees. We already look forward to next year’s SSSS & ORE events and maintaining an outside exhibitor booth that will help us better serve our customers.
Having an outdoor vendor area and support trailer allows Wilwood to display our unique Brake product carts and vehicles that showcase the latest offerings, like this super clean Chevy Silverado 6.2L Z71 with our latest Aero6 DM- a direct mount front brake kit for 17” and larger wheels.
Our good friend, Jim Ryan, V.P. SCORE Marketing & Sales, along with owner Roger Norman of SCORE International, always have a big reveal and press conference of the upcoming Baja 1000 route for 2023 at Off-Road Expo on Saturday at 3 p.m. The SCORE Baja 1000 exhibit area was located in building 7 for the first time and as always, offered desert-racing fans the opportunity to get up close and interact with many of the top desert racing teams in the world while checking out some of the most advanced motorsport’s vehicles ever engineered.
Showcased in the KC HiLites booth was the latest killer ’65 Ford F100 build from RJ Fabrication featuring Wilwood Brakes of course.
Another good friend of the Wilwood family was John Grounds of Proving Grounds.
He's racing with his Ultra4 car with Wilwood Brakes and was staged in the Dirty Life Wheels booth for the weekend.
Wilwood’s Aero6 DM kit for ’07-’18 GM Trucks was proudly displayed at the Dirt King booth with their trick suspension package.
Black Widow Exhaust seemed to have its legs stretched out with vehicles all over Off Road Expo this year. Sitting front and center in the BWE booth was their own OBS Chevy powered by an LSX 454 sporting Wilwood Brakes front and rear!
